The 2023 UN Water Conference opened at UN Headquarters in New York on March 22, 2023. The three-day event falls at the halfway point for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include the promise of ensuring all people have access to safe water and sanitation by 2030.
Seven Global Water Resources Data Products were presented by Prof. Guo Huadong, CBAS Director-General to Mr. Csaba Kőrösi, the President of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly on the sidelines of the conference.
Mr. Kőrösi pointed out that the data would be of great importance for UN forthcoming global water information system. He also hoped that CBAS strengthen cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in the development of the system by utilizing the data products. He called for CBAS to enhance its contribution in providing scientific support and data evidence for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
CBAS was founded in 2021 and hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) to monitor scientific indicators for SDGs.
Earlier in February, Mr. Kőrösi paid a visit to the CBAS during his official visit to China where he met with Prof. Guo and appreciated the efforts of CAS in support of UN SDGs.
The products include datasets such as global cropland water-use efficiency and the Forel-Ule Index of large lakes, among others. The datasets are available at the website:https://data.casearth.cn/thematic/GWRD_2023
