The SDG Big Data Platform aims to integrate Big Earth Data for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for monitoring and prediction and to provide decision support for implementing SDGs. Currently, the platform prioritizes six SDGs, namely SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
Based on a hyper-converged framework, the platform integrates modules of supercomputing, big data cloud computing, data storage, and high-speed networks. Cutting-edge technologies have been explored through this platform, including the unified scheduling and aggregation services of ultra-large-scale distributed computing resources, the management and computation of petabyte-level gridded data, and the interactive online analysis of Big Earth Data.
Combining multiple sources of data in geography, remote sensing, ground monitoring, and social statistics, the platform provides tailored services for SDG research by integrating over a hundred popular algorithms and tools on the unified platform. Besides tailored SDG data products, typical cloud services on this bilingual portal also include SDG data analysis, SDG data engine, Earth data miner, decision support, and an SDG data repository.
Ten petabytes of Earth science data, self-developed programs featuring SDG data lifecycle curation, and sustained and tailored cloud services will jointly guarantee effectiveness and efficiency in monitoring the progress of implementing the SDGs, thus contributing to Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
