CBAS held a welcoming ceremony for the appointment of Professor Gretchen Kalonji as a special advisor

In July 2024, International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) welcomed a new member - Professor Gretchen Kalonji. CBAS held a welcome ceremony to warmly welcome her as the official special advisor of CBAS. Her joining will further enhance the international influence of CBAS in promoting sustainable development through technological innovation.

Professor Gretchen Kalonji had already had a long-term cooperation with CBAS before officially joining. She is one of the foundation Fellows of CBAS and also the Chair of the International Advisory Committee of CBAS. In the future, she will provide valuable advice and guidance for the international development of CBAS with rich international experience and profound insight.

Professor Gretchen Kalonji builds on her experiences as a faculty member in world-class universities, including MIT, the University of Washington, and the University of California. From 2005 to 2010 she served as Director of International Strategy Development for the 10-Campus University of California system. From 2010 to 2014, she served as the Assistant Director General for Natural Sciences at UNESCO. From 2016 to 2024, she served as the Dean of the Institute for Disaster Management and Reconstruction (IDMR), Sichuan University - The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, focusing on interdisciplinary and international cooperation in reducing and responding to disaster risks.

At the welcome ceremony, Academician Guo Huadong, Director General of CBAS, delivered a speech, highly praising Professor Gretchen Kalonji's outstanding contributions in the field of sustainable development, and looking forward to her continuing to play a leading role in her new position, helping CBAS achieve more fruitful results in promoting the implementation of global sustainable development goals through big data, and pushing CBAS to new heights in international scientific and technological cooperation. Professor Kalonji expressed her great honor to join CBAS and explore the infinite possibilities of big data in promoting sustainable development with the excellent colleagues at CBAS.
