On August 13, Tan Seng Chuan, President-Elect of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), visited the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS), accompanied by Prof. Gretchen Kalonji, PIFI Expert and Special Advisor to CBAS.
During the visit, Prof. Tan toured CBAS’s big data cloud infrastructure for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), applications of the SDGSAT-1 science satellite, and the Digital Earth Science Platform, and held in-depth discussions with researchers on good practices and future potential of digital engineering capacities—including space science, data development, and big data platforms—to serve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Prof. Chen Fang, Executive Deputy Director of CBAS, warmly welcomed Prof. Tan’s visit and expressed hopes to further deepen collaboration with WFEO, particularly in advancing global digital capacity building to better support the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda.
Prof. Tan expressed his appreciation and encouraged CBAS to active engage in WFEO’s major initiatives and activities. He proposed deepening cooperation in areas such as disaster risk reduction, engineering capacity development, talent cultivation, and WFEO’s Africa Initiative, with the aim of jointly promoting research and innovation in digital technologies for the SDGs.
Representatives from the International Programme Office of Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR-IPO) and relevant CBAS offices also participated in the meeting.
