Keynote lecture on “Viewing the Earth Environment from Space” delivered at open lecture hall

04 20, 2026

On April 11, 2026, Prof. Huadong Guo, Director General of the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS), was invited to deliver a keynote lecture at the Open Lecture Hall hosted by the National Centre RUSSIA in Moscow.

The event, themed “Geography,” is part of the International Symposium “Inventing the Future,” an annual flagship initiative aimed at bringing together leading global thinkers to explore forward-looking visions for humanity.

In his lecture, titled “Viewing the Earth Environment from Space,” Prof. Guo presented his vision for the future of Earth observation. He highlighted that next-generation space technologies will enable the observation of the most remote and least accessible regions of the planet without disturbing their natural state. He emphasized that advanced scientific satellites, such as SDGSAT-1, will be capable of detecting subtle signals of human activity and environmental change that are currently difficult to capture. Looking ahead, Prof. Guo noted that the Moon could serve as a stable, long-term Earth observation platform, enabling continuous monitoring of the Earth from deep space. He underscored that the integration of advanced satellite systems and potential Moon-based observatories will fundamentally transform humanity’s ability to explore and understand the Earth system.

The lecture attracted more than 600 participants and generated lively discussions on the role of space technology in advancing sustainable development.

The National Centre RUSSIA in Moscow, opened in November 2024 by decision of President Vladimir Putin, is a national platform dedicated to envisioning and shaping Russia’s future by bringing together achievements, talent, and ideas from across the country.

The International Symposium “Inventing the Future” is its annual flagship event, gathering global experts to co-design future scenarios. The 2024 and 2025 editions brought together thousands of participants from over 80 countries. The “Geography” theme explores human frontiers from space to the deep ocean, and the impacts of climate change on global resources.
