Deputy Secretary General of International Promotion for the IUGS; Director of the Deep-time Digital Earth (DDE) Program

Dr. Ishwaran is Deputy Secretary General of International Promotion for the IUGS, and Director of the Deep-time Digital Earth (DDE) Program. During 2012-2015 he worked with HIST in Beijing. From 1986 to 2021 he held key UNESCO positions related to conservation of World Heritage and ecological and earth sciences.

His has a Ph.D. in Wildlife Biology and Management for which he studied Asian elephant conservation in Sri Lanka. He has more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and was the Editor-in-Chief of Environmental Development (Elsevier) from 2018 to 2021.
